ODJA is the only association in Ontario made up exclusively of Deputy Judges. We are the “Voice of Deputy Judges” at the government table.
ODJA is known for its member camaraderie, exceptional educational opportunities and judicial resources.
All current and former deputy judges are welcome to join ODJA as a voting members.
Why Join Us?
Member Camaraderie
Meet, network, socialize, and exchange ideas, techniques, protocols and best practices with other deputy judges through our group chat forums set up for all members and for members from each region.
Take advantage of our mentorship program. If you are newly appointed (in the last 12 months), we will pair you with an experienced Deputy Judge. They will be available to you one-on-one.
Exceptional CPD
ODJA provides an annual program of online CPD that is available both live or as a recording to all members. These sessions are run monthly (except August).
- Cutting-edge topics of interest to judges
- CPD credits accredited by the LSO
- Online – you don’t have to leave your office or home
Our Education Committee is also engages with the Deputy Judges Council in setting the agenda for the annual Caswell seminar held each year for all Deputy Judges and many of our members have presented at Caswell over the years.
Compensation and Working Conditions
Since 2006, ODJA has been invited to represent the interests of Deputy Judges in the the triennial commission on compensation. The Commissioner makes recommendations to the government.
ODJA understands the changing environment for Deputy Judges: the real cost of spending a day in court and not in your office of files; the skills required to hear a broad variety of legal matters in an increased jurisdiction, the need for up-to-date technology and equipment (currently paid by the DJ not working in the court house). ODJA also undestands and fights for pay that is equitable and commensurate with other members of the judiciary.
Judicial Resources
In addition to the mentorship program, ODJA regularly posts interesting cases, timely developments in the law and news important to judges.
